Semiotics is a science which studies signs and sign systems as text. Stratification semiotics tries to survey the relation between sign layers in conveying message. This paper tries to study on connotative signification in “Snow Jeremiad” Movie in the frame work of the stratification semiotics that selected the sequences in this film for study of semiotics. In this study, part to part of the selected sequences evaluated in terms of sex codes that answer to the main question of this research. The manifested statistic result is eloquent that codes of costumes, spacing, make-up, and accents would culturally mark in cinematic text and the technical cinematic codes effectively would mark the text culture wise. A personality type plays an active role in the above-mentioned codes; furthermore, above-mentioned codes as well as music codes play in shaping connotation. The writer's aim has been to review connotation and Personality types.

Cognitive linguistics is one the most common approaches to study of language that gives a central place to the meaning. The most recent semantic theory in this line is “Lexical Concepts and Cognitive Models theory (LCCM) that has been proposed by Evans (2006, 2007, 2009a, 2009b, 2010a, 2010b, 2013, 2015). This theory suggests a novel framework for understanding the process of meaning-construction and semantic representation. In the present research, we explore this theory and its fundamental concepts and analyze their various aspects. We also discuss some applications of this theory for explaining problems popular in cognitive linguistics (e.g. metaphor, metonymy, and polysemy). Finally, we discuss some criticisms of the theory.

This article explores the structure of the so-called passives in Baboli dialect. A past participle or a noun phrase along with “bayyen” as a verb constitutes these structures. Using evidences like the position of negative marker “ne-” on “bayyen” and having the same structure as main verbs, we conclude that “bayyen” is a main light verb. Then getting benefitted from data like adjectival comparative suffix “-tar” and “xeylias” a premodifier for adjectives, we demonstrate that the elements preceding “bayyen” are in fact adjective and not verb. The analysis of the relation between these two elements in passives reveals that these elements combine to form compound verbs. Therefore, the so-called passives in this dialect are not passive; rather they are active sentences with complex predicates. Finally a different form of passive is diagnosed in this dialect which we call semantic passives. It means it has the structure of an active sentence but the subject of the sentence is not known. Therefore, it is passive just semantically.

Reading the holy Quran is one of our most important religious duties. The purpose of this article is the explanation of issues from linguistics point of view that helps to correct reading of Quran. To do this, many verses of holy Quran were considered and after deliberation on them, the current method of teaching Quran in terms of Tajvid was studied. Then by means of linguistics concept (phonology branch) it was clear that Tajvid rules such as Iqlab, Idgham, Sun Letters and Ikhfa can be explained by “assimilation process” in linguistics. The result indicated that in reading Quran there are different types of assimilations such as partial and complete. These assimilations are mainly consonantal, regressive and adjacent (not vocalic, progressive and non-adjacent). Through such researches we can take steps toward teaching this everlasting miracle that is indicative of our way of life and pave the way for using it as much as possible.

Applying descriptive-analysis method, this study aims to examine English and Persian onomatopoeia, sixty of which are described in terms of meaning and usage, and then classified into certain groups using the three following theories, ding-dong, pooh-pooh, bow-bow. Furthermore, analogy has been drawn to identify their contrast and comparison. Findings of this research indicate that different phonology (phoneme limitation), different syllable pattern and different interpretation of onomatopoeia as well as different reduplication are determining factors which make contrasts while similar/common phonemes act as comparison between the two languages. The results illustrate that despite of the same sound source (nature, animals and emotional sounds) and the common arguments supporting a natural relation between sound and meaning, remarkable differences can be found in cross-linguistic studies of English and Persian onomatopoeia.
